5 Free Things To Do With Kids on Hilton Head Island

You don’t need a lot of money—and sometimes none at all!—to have a great time and create some wonderful vacation memories with your family. Hilton Head has quite a few free and reasonably-priced attractions that you can do indoor and outdoor during your stay. Get the kids off their phones and electronic devices and out having fun and creating memories. Here are our top 5 choices to go, see and do!

Spring and Summer nights (and Thanksgiving and Christmas too!) you’ll find Gregg Russell singing his own songs under the old Liberty Oak tree in Harbour Town for millions of people across all ages. Enjoy a night of family fun with special antics for the kids... games, interviews, sing-a-longs and great entertainment. Most families come night after night because they know the show is always different, always exciting. There is also a playground located here. While you are in Harbortown, be sure to take the kids (of all ages)to the iconic lighthouse. You can climb to the top for a small fee.

The Coastal Discovery Museum is the perfect place to go if you’re looking for fun things to do in Hilton Head with kids. While most of the attractions at the Coastal Discovery Museum are indoors, some of the trails that lead between exhibits are outdoors. Admission is free, though some educational programs happen each day that require a small fee if you wish to attend them. Throughout the museum, you can learn about the area’s natural history and visit historic buildings. They also often have live animals to visit.

If you’re a lover of books and want to stay indoors for a bit, head to the Hilton Head Branch Library, the island’s main library. There’s ample reading space, public computers, and books that you can take off the shelf and read inside, even if you aren’t a member. The library also hosts many free events and programs throughout the year, which you can attend if interested. You do not need to be a local to visit the library, however you will need a library card to check any materials out!

The Sandbox Children’s Museum is a fun place to go if you’ll be visiting Hilton Head with children. Inside, there are many interactive educational exhibits and activities children can participate in while learning. While there’s usually a small admission fee, they offer an annual Free Family Fun Night. The Free Fun Night changes dates every year so check their website for the most updated information on when free nights are. The museum is located close to Coligny Beach park and within the LowCountry Celebration Park which has The Adventure Palyground. This interactive playground is named after the ship Captain William Hilton was on when he discovered Hilton HEad Island. If fetures a reimagined design of the ship, playground, wading pool and more!

One of the most popular attractions in Hilton Head, a visit to the scenic Coligny Beach is a must. Visiting the beach is free though you may have to pay for parking. You can head over to South Forest Drive for free parking. The amenities at the beach feature outdoor showers, spots to relax, and many wheelchair-accessible spaces. If you get hungry while there, be sure to stop by some of the nearby family-friendly restaurants.

Perhaps the best part of all of these activities is how close they are located to many of the homes and villas we manage on Hilton Head Island. Just a short walk or trolley ride away is so much to do!
