The Town of Hilton Head Island's 2026 Beach Renourishment Project began on August 6, 2025 at Fish Haul Beach, located off Mitchelville Road on the Island's north end. This vital initiative, part of the Town's long-term beach management program, is undertaken every 8 to 10 years and aims to preserve, protect, and restore Hilton Head's valuable shoreline.
The 2026 renourishment will mirror past efforts (1990, 1997, 2006, 2016) and involves placing approximately 2.2 million cubic yards of beach-compatible sand across 46,500 feet of Atlantic Ocean and Port Royal Sound shoreline. Sand will be dredged from offshore shoals and pumped through extensive pipeline systems onto designated beach areas, then shaped by heavy machinery to meet specific design standards.
The $47.5 million project is divided into three phases, with work expected to last until May 2026:

During the renourishment, about 1,000-foot beach segments will be temporarily closed, with beachgoers directed around active work zones via ramps and signage. Construction is expected to proceed 24/7, moving at a pace of 200-300 feet per day, with minor disruptions lasting just a few days for any specific beachfront property
The proposed project will include sand placement along five areas of the island shoreline:
The project includes safeguards for endangered species. Activities are monitored by consultants to protect sea turtles and migratory shorebirds. Per U.S. Army Corps and USFWS permit conditions, dog activity is restricted in a small area adjacent to Fish Haul Creek Beach Park. All other beaches remain under normal seasonal pet access rules.

We absolutely loved this spot! We have three little kids and the location to coligney and the back porch walkout to the ocean and pool is unmatched. Would love to rent this unit again in the future! The only thing i wish differently was that we had access to a vacuum. There was a lot of carpet in the unit and out little ones are messy. We did loving having a broom and mop around.Posted: 8/3/2025

This place was amazing. It was as described and beautiful. We were very impressed with how well kept and clean the unit was. Hands down the cleanest place we’ve ever stayed through Airbnb.
We had an issue with check in, but called the number and left a message for the person on call during after hours and they were very quick to respond and get it straight. Customer service at Island Time was top notch from booking to check out. Staff was friendly and willing to answer questions and help.
I liked being away from the hustle and bustle but close enough that we could walk to coffee, restaurants and shopping.
The pool was great. Large enough that it never felt too crowded even though we went during peak season. The beach was not crowded and a very short walk from the unit.

We’ve stayed at the Shorewood villas for the past six years and let me tell you, they’re not all created equally. This unit, 109, is definitely one of the nicest we’ve stayed in! The owner was very accommodating, even making sure we were brought a can opener when we realized there wasn’t one in the condo. We had 5 people staying in the unit and we never felt crammed or crowded - there was plenty of seating in the living room for lounging at night. The bathrooms were some of the nicest on the property - they seemed recently updated, as did the washer and dryer. Everything was tidy upon arrival, there were plenty of bath towels provided, and my favorite thing (although it seems small) is there were lots of coat/towel hooks. We’ve stayed in multiple units that did not have a single one so I’m always grateful to see them. We loved being beach front - just a quick walk to the access gate and pool. We had an exceptional experience! The villa was wonderful from all perspectives - excellent location, nicely appointed and updated, terrific communications from the owner, perfectly located with respect to the pool, a very short walk to the beach, and a nice view facing the ocean. The pool and hot tubs were in great shape and there was plenty of furniture so finding a place to sit was never a problem. The owner, Deb, got back to us quickly and did a great job answering our questions (recommendations for places to eat, specific questions about items that were provided - whether or not a Keurig coffee maker was available - it is, etc.). The ground floor ocean villa was clean, well appointed, and an easy five minute walk to the beach. The beds were very comfortable and one of the bathrooms had a walk-in shower, a real plus for 2 eighty year old seniors. The key-less entry and easy parking added to the enjoyment of our visit. The condo was exactly as advertised with the exception of the bedroom carpets which appeared worn and somewhat soiled - they are ready for a change. Other then that, the place was great. Nice updates in the living area and kitchen. Master bath was also nicely updated. Very comfortable patio with a great view of the ocean - perfect for watching the sunrise with a hot cup of coffee. Deb was very attentive from the start, and the property was as described and was much cleaner than any other rental we have stayed in at Hilton Head (as I’ve gotten older, I find I’m pickier about how clean places are). We enjoyed our stay very much; the condo had everything we needed for cooking and even toys and a chair for the beach. The location can’t be beat - only a quick 2min walk to the beach and 5mins to Coligny. The condo also had a standing fan for the guest room and tabletop fan for the master, which helped keep us cool at night despite not having ceiling fans. No issues with anything (no bugs, no leaky faucets, etc.). It feels like there’s always something that goes wrong, but this place was perfect; loved everything!Posted: 9/18/2021

What a wonderful vacation! The villa was exactly as described - clean, fresh, beautifully furnished and in a perfect location. We rode bikes to Coligny Circle and Independence Park, hosted many meals for other family members who were staying down the street, slept wonderfully in the comfortable beds. The beach was right outside our back door, just a few steps away, and we spent lots of time there. It was great to be so close - we would sleep in and be lazy on the dreary mornings but head to the beach for the late afternoon/evenings and have a great time with most of the beach to ourselves. This was by far our favorite condo yet! Our family has visited HHI several times and the location is great. Teens can walk to Coligny Square on their own and have some independence. The view is great and having the 1st floor walk out was very convient to get to beach and pool.Posted: 8/14/2021

We both had a couple of injuries this year so we decided to get a first floor condo. We were pleasantly surprised to still have a really nice view of the ocean as well as of the beautiful lawn with lots of bunnies. This unit is a wonderful location with easy walking to Coligny. Being on the ground floor and being able to walk out the back patio on the grassy area was great for our kids to play and allowed for super easy/quick access to the pool and beach. Perfect location and perfect condo! We couldn’t have enjoyed this place more. It is very nice yet very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and everything worked great. Beds were comfortable. Love that you can shut a door to separate the noise between the bedrooms and kitchen/living area. The ocean view from the living room and porch is great and the condo is so convenient to the pool and beach. We enjoyed being on the ground level and being able to run back and forth quickly. We also enjoyed the yard outside. Kids were able to throw baseball, frisbee, and play tag and we could keep close eye on them. We walked/biked to Coligny Plaza several times for groceries at Piggly Wiggly and also to eat dinner. We rented bikes using the coupon code that comes with the rental and rode all over the island all week. Loved the keyless entry to everything! This first floor unit was absolutely perfect for our family! With little kids it was easy to walk out the back door and be steps from the beach or pool. The unit was incredibly well stocked with every pot, pan, or utensil we could have needed for eating our meals in. We had fun walking a couple of blocks to Coligny Plaza with delicious ice creameries, an incredibly fun play area, and lots of kids playing at the splash pad!
