The Town of Hilton Head Island's 2026 Beach Renourishment Project began on August 6, 2025 at Fish Haul Beach, located off Mitchelville Road on the Island's north end. This vital initiative, part of the Town's long-term beach management program, is undertaken every 8 to 10 years and aims to preserve, protect, and restore Hilton Head's valuable shoreline.
The 2026 renourishment will mirror past efforts (1990, 1997, 2006, 2016) and involves placing approximately 2.2 million cubic yards of beach-compatible sand across 46,500 feet of Atlantic Ocean and Port Royal Sound shoreline. Sand will be dredged from offshore shoals and pumped through extensive pipeline systems onto designated beach areas, then shaped by heavy machinery to meet specific design standards.
The $47.5 million project is divided into three phases, with work expected to last until May 2026:

During the renourishment, about 1,000-foot beach segments will be temporarily closed, with beachgoers directed around active work zones via ramps and signage. Construction is expected to proceed 24/7, moving at a pace of 200-300 feet per day, with minor disruptions lasting just a few days for any specific beachfront property

The project includes safeguards for endangered species. Activities are monitored by consultants to protect sea turtles and migratory shorebirds. Per U.S. Army Corps and USFWS permit conditions, dog activity is restricted in a small area adjacent to Fish Haul Creek Beach Park. All other beaches remain under normal seasonal pet access rules.

I have stayed in several different Breakers units. This one is my favorite. The futons in the living room are a great idea! The property was clean and demonstrates a great use of space with cute built in cubbies in the bathroom. It is nicely updated. And the view ��

212 Breakers was a relaxing getaway. The condo was clean and well appointed. The view of the beach and ocean was beautiful. Everything you need is a convenient short walk over to Coligne, from groceries at Piggly Wiggly to shops and restaurants. The beach is a few steps away and we watched birds, dolphins and people from the great balcony view. We even had a mooching whitetail deer visit for treats. The property was nice and clean, not a lot of noise around so it was nice and quite, beautiful views from the balcony of the second floor, close enough to the beach to hear the waves crashing against the sand and the foliage between the complex and the beach was pretty with palm trees and other plant life, we could hear the frogs and crickets plus the waves from the ocean which was very peaceful and calming, had an issue with the ac breaking one night we stayed but it was fixed within a few hours after making a few calls, great response time from the property manager and everyone else involved, the night crew that kept watch over the property were very cool with a great sense of humor and made us feel good when staying there, one guy in particular that works at the breakers residence we stayed at was very nice and a great guy to talk to, his name was josh, very cool and lay back guy with a awesome personality, he recommended many places for me and my girlfriend to visit while we were there so i give him 5 stars on his services while we were there, the night life was great a very mature crowd for the most part which was nice, not a lot of rowdy people causing trouble so it was a great stay, will definitely be concerning staying here again next year, thank you for the amazing vacation!Posted: 8/6/2023
