The Town of Hilton Head Island's 2026 Beach Renourishment Project began on August 6, 2025 at Fish Haul Beach, located off Mitchelville Road on the Island's north end. This vital initiative, part of the Town's long-term beach management program, is undertaken every 8 to 10 years and aims to preserve, protect, and restore Hilton Head's valuable shoreline.
The 2026 renourishment will mirror past efforts (1990, 1997, 2006, 2016) and involves placing approximately 2.2 million cubic yards of beach-compatible sand across 46,500 feet of Atlantic Ocean and Port Royal Sound shoreline. Sand will be dredged from offshore shoals and pumped through extensive pipeline systems onto designated beach areas, then shaped by heavy machinery to meet specific design standards.
The $47.5 million project is divided into three phases, with work expected to last until May 2026:

During the renourishment, about 1,000-foot beach segments will be temporarily closed, with beachgoers directed around active work zones via ramps and signage. Construction is expected to proceed 24/7, moving at a pace of 200-300 feet per day, with minor disruptions lasting just a few days for any specific beachfront property
The proposed project will include sand placement along five areas of the island shoreline:
The project includes safeguards for endangered species. Activities are monitored by consultants to protect sea turtles and migratory shorebirds. Per U.S. Army Corps and USFWS permit conditions, dog activity is restricted in a small area adjacent to Fish Haul Creek Beach Park. All other beaches remain under normal seasonal pet access rules.

Villa was clean and spacious. The location of the 2nd bedroom gave the third adult in our party privacy, when needed. Television remotes were easy to operate which is not always the case in villas. Very short walk to ocean. Even less of a walk to the pool. Palmetto Dunes is a beautiful area.Posted: 10/21/2025

Excellent stay. We have been to the Mornings a number of times; this property was the best one yet. Island Time was excellent to work with. We stay in The Moorings Villas every year for the past 7 years and this has been my favorite villa so far. Very clean and updated villa. My kids loved the games they had available. The unit was equipped with just about everything you would need. It does back up to The Marriott Resort within Palmetto Dunes so some nights and early mornings were a little loud due to maintenance so bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. This condo is very well stocked and extremely clean. It also is a great location with just a two minute walk to the beach. Everything we needed was here from the washer/dryer, a kitchen full of supplies, as well as drying racks and extra beach chairs in the closet too. This was our first time renting through island time and I cannot say enough good about our experience with them. They were very attentive and had clear communication throughout the rental process. Only thing I didnt like was that they charged 95.00 (which I wasnt aware of) for rental of bikes/gear which they say is 150.00 credit at rental place which you have to use 72hrs before arrival. Never planned on renting anything so got screwed out of 95.00Posted: 5/31/2023

It is a couple flights up, so some great exercise for those looking to stretch their legs. I would like a few items installed in unit for longer stay visitors like towel bars, place for food in kitchen, miscellaneous items. That being said, whenever i asked for something the property manager was extremely quick to bring something over. Big TVs in every room, plenty of seating in main room. The view off patios is of hotel next door, but you are a few yards from beach - sunrise is beautiful and different every morning! The Island time staff was excellent. Very helpful and always reachable via phone or text. Condo was beautiful, clean, comfortable and perfect location to the beach. 5 minute walk. Pools are nice. Even though it was a crowded week, we always had parking and pool was never crowded! We were there with our 2 adult sons and they each had their own queen size bed! They even gave us $150 credit toward beach gear rentals and we rented bikes. It worked out perfectly! Kitchen and toiletries well stocked. We had everything we needed! This is the second time we have stayed in this community. We love the bike/walk paths, the closeness to the beach, pool, and the General Store. We enjoy the layout of the condo as our kids (12 & 14) enjoy having a more separate area when they need some quiet time.
