Shelter Cove is located mid-island and is convenient for accessing all parts of Hilton Head. However, you may never need to leave, as there are so many things to do right outside your door. If water sports interest you, nearby you will find kayak and canoe rentals, fishing boat charters, jet-ski rentals, dolphin and sightseeing cruises, as well as dinner cruises. Rent a bicycle and take advantage of the miles and miles of bike paths that the island has to offer, or pedal the short distance to the beach and spend the day in the sand and surf. Spend an afternoon shopping and dining at the many boutiques and restaurants located along the water's edge at the beautifully landscaped marina. You will also have use of the building's private pool, located within the gated grounds. As a guest at Shelter Cove, you will have access to all of the amenities that Palmetto Dunes has to offer, such as the beach club, the Dunes House restaurant, three world-class golf courses, and fantastic tennis facilities. The Dunes Buggy is just a phone call away and is a free shuttle service that is available in season to take you anywhere within the Palmetto Dunes area, should you not have a car or choose not to drive. The Shelter Cove Shopping Center is conveniently located nearby, offering a Kroger grocery store, a variety of restaurants, and an array of shops to explore.

The Town of Hilton Head Island's 2026 Beach Renourishment Project began on August 6, 2025 at Fish Haul Beach, located off Mitchelville Road on the Island's north end. This vital initiative, part of the Town's long-term beach management program, is undertaken every 8 to 10 years and aims to preserve, protect, and restore Hilton Head's valuable shoreline.
The 2026 renourishment will mirror past efforts (1990, 1997, 2006, 2016) and involves placing approximately 2.2 million cubic yards of beach-compatible sand across 46,500 feet of Atlantic Ocean and Port Royal Sound shoreline. Sand will be dredged from offshore shoals and pumped through extensive pipeline systems onto designated beach areas, then shaped by heavy machinery to meet specific design standards.
The $47.5 million project is divided into three phases, with work expected to last until May 2026:

During the renourishment, about 1,000-foot beach segments will be temporarily closed, with beachgoers directed around active work zones via ramps and signage. Construction is expected to proceed 24/7, moving at a pace of 200-300 feet per day, with minor disruptions lasting just a few days for any specific beachfront property

The project includes safeguards for endangered species. Activities are monitored by consultants to protect sea turtles and migratory shorebirds. Per U.S. Army Corps and USFWS permit conditions, dog activity is restricted in a small area adjacent to Fish Haul Creek Beach Park. All other beaches remain under normal seasonal pet access rules.

This was a lovely condo with nice view of the channel from the marina and a great pool that was generally absent of other guests. It felt so private. For our ocean/beach time, it was a simple bike or buggy ride (free). We also drove there at times (morning and late afternoons). This is a nice condo for a couple to enjoy all that HHI offers. The complex is very quiet and the views of Broad Creek, with boats coming and going from the marina, cannot be beat. We wanted to have a time away from winter in Canada but not intense heat and the weather in Hilton Head was perfect for us temperatures in the high 60’s ti the mid 70’s and we had very little rain and many wonderful sunny days. We walked, golfed, went to Savannah and Bluffton , had lovely restaurant meals and enjoyed some musical events and art galleries and mainly R and R !!Posted: 4/5/2024

Absolutely love this rental! We got in on July 4th and got to see the fireworks right from the balcony (which they also do every Tuesday!). It was a beautiful view for coffee out on the balcony every day and we loved the proximity to the nearby marina with water rentals (we went paddle boating). All the amenities were fully equipped and we loved being able to cook dinners and dine in some of the nights. Getting to the beach was simple and easy as the free dune buggy picked us up right at the building! This place was also very close to shopping nearby which made for a great rainy day activity.
