Shelter Cove is located mid-island and is convenient for accessing all parts of Hilton Head. However, you may never need to leave, as there are so many things to do right outside your door. If water sports interest you, nearby you will find kayak and canoe rentals, fishing boat charters, jet-ski rentals, dolphin and sightseeing cruises, as well as dinner cruises. Rent a bicycle and take advantage of the miles and miles of bike paths that the island has to offer, or pedal the short distance to the beach and spend the day in the sand and surf. Spend an afternoon shopping and dining at the many boutiques and restaurants located along the water's edge at the beautifully landscaped marina. You will also have use of the building's private pool, located within the gated grounds. As a guest at Shelter Cove, you will have access to all of the amenities that Palmetto Dunes has to offer, such as the beach club, the Dunes House restaurant, three world-class golf courses, and fantastic tennis facilities. The Dunes Buggy is just a phone call away and is a free shuttle service that is available in season to take you anywhere within the Palmetto Dunes area, should you not have a car or choose not to drive. The Shelter Cove Shopping Center is conveniently located nearby, offering a Kroger grocery store, a variety of restaurants, and an array of shops to explore.

The Town of Hilton Head Island's 2026 Beach Renourishment Project began on August 6, 2025 at Fish Haul Beach, located off Mitchelville Road on the Island's north end. This vital initiative, part of the Town's long-term beach management program, is undertaken every 8 to 10 years and aims to preserve, protect, and restore Hilton Head's valuable shoreline.
The 2026 renourishment will mirror past efforts (1990, 1997, 2006, 2016) and involves placing approximately 2.2 million cubic yards of beach-compatible sand across 46,500 feet of Atlantic Ocean and Port Royal Sound shoreline. Sand will be dredged from offshore shoals and pumped through extensive pipeline systems onto designated beach areas, then shaped by heavy machinery to meet specific design standards.
The $47.5 million project is divided into three phases, with work expected to last until May 2026:

During the renourishment, about 1,000-foot beach segments will be temporarily closed, with beachgoers directed around active work zones via ramps and signage. Construction is expected to proceed 24/7, moving at a pace of 200-300 feet per day, with minor disruptions lasting just a few days for any specific beachfront property

The project includes safeguards for endangered species. Activities are monitored by consultants to protect sea turtles and migratory shorebirds. Per U.S. Army Corps and USFWS permit conditions, dog activity is restricted in a small area adjacent to Fish Haul Creek Beach Park. All other beaches remain under normal seasonal pet access rules.

The unit was beautiful, clean and well equipped. Was exactly as pictured and described. The view of the harbor is entertaining all day long with kayaks and fishing boats coming and going. Management responded immediately to our few issues. I would recommend 510 Main Sail and Island Time to everyone. We played pickleball indoor at Dill Dinker and outdoors at Palmetto Dunes. More fabulous restaurants than we could visit. We got an Uber easily every night to and from our chosen restaurant.

We stayed at 510 Mainsail for Memorial Day weekend and the villa was perfect for 4 adults. The open area was spacious, the bar carts were loaded with glasses, and the kitchen had everything we wanted and more. Our favorite place to hang out was the screened porch! It was perfect when it rained all day. We didn't even care that we never got to the beach. Caleb with Island Time was the most attentive and thorough agent I have ever met. He made sure we had everything we needed and made excellent suggestions about where to eat and what to do. You can tell he loves HHI. We will definitely rent this property again.Posted: 5/27/2025

Bathrooms, kitchen and floors were all very clean... even our light-colored socks stayed clean.We did have a few maintenance issues on our three week stay, but the management company, Island Time, was very responsive and resolved them quickly.We do have a few suggestions:The unit needs a periodical maintenance program where everything is reviewed, tested, and corrected if needed. During our stay, the toilets in all 3 bathrooms needed repair. Multiple lightbulbs needed to be replaced. The vents/ductwork are black with dirt buildup. The smoke detectors had the original batteries and the alarm went off at 1 am, which required us to change them by standing on a bar stool in the middle of the night. These are all things that should be addressed on a periodic basis. Another issue is the main bedroom mattress and the pillows throughout need to be replaced. The main bedroom mattress is severely sagging and the pillows are very cheap and uncomfortable (sore backs and necks). Heads up, the living room windowsills’ paint is bubbling, indication of a possible water issue. Sounds like a lot of cons but easily addressed as this unit, location, views, property management, and cleaning crew are great!! 510 Mainsail just needs a little deep TLC. ThanksPosted: 3/8/2024
