The Town of Hilton Head Island's 2026 Beach Renourishment Project began on August 6, 2025 at Fish Haul Beach, located off Mitchelville Road on the Island's north end. This vital initiative, part of the Town's long-term beach management program, is undertaken every 8 to 10 years and aims to preserve, protect, and restore Hilton Head's valuable shoreline.
The 2026 renourishment will mirror past efforts (1990, 1997, 2006, 2016) and involves placing approximately 2.2 million cubic yards of beach-compatible sand across 46,500 feet of Atlantic Ocean and Port Royal Sound shoreline. Sand will be dredged from offshore shoals and pumped through extensive pipeline systems onto designated beach areas, then shaped by heavy machinery to meet specific design standards.
The $47.5 million project is divided into three phases, with work expected to last until May 2026:

During the renourishment, about 1,000-foot beach segments will be temporarily closed, with beachgoers directed around active work zones via ramps and signage. Construction is expected to proceed 24/7, moving at a pace of 200-300 feet per day, with minor disruptions lasting just a few days for any specific beachfront property
The proposed project will include sand placement along five areas of the island shoreline:
The project includes safeguards for endangered species. Activities are monitored by consultants to protect sea turtles and migratory shorebirds. Per U.S. Army Corps and USFWS permit conditions, dog activity is restricted in a small area adjacent to Fish Haul Creek Beach Park. All other beaches remain under normal seasonal pet access rules.

My wife and I loved our stay at this vacation rental. Everything about the place was just perfect. We went there to take advantage of all the bike trails and was pleasantly surprised to find a path right off the back yard. Plenty of restaurants and shops with in biking and even walking distance of the home. The home itself was super clean and up to date. Our favorite part of our trip was having our coffee and watching deer play in the back yard every morning we were there. We did a little hiking in the close by nature preserve and enjoyed some walks on the beach. The check in was easy and the property managers did a great job communicating with us and even called us halfway through the vacation to make sure we didn't need anything. Our family visited for the week of July 4th and loved staying at this property. With three kids and two working parents, the home provided everything we needed to get away but still sneak in some work from time to time. The two-family room layout was perfect for the kids to watch movies at night while mom and dad could reconnect over a glass of wine in the separate living room. The location of the house was wonderful, back yard opened to walking/biking trail, you could be at the beach, golf course in a matter of minutes by biking. September is a wonderful time to visit Hilton Head! We loved being in Sea Pines, which offers convenient access to restaurants and shopping, plus this location was an easy bike ride or a short walk to the beach. The house appears to have been fully updated recently. It has a great floor plan that could comfortably accommodate two families. The third bedroom has two twin beds that can be put together to form a king-sized bed. The kitchen has an open and modern design, with all of the tools and equipment we needed. The furniture was comfortable, and the house was nicely decorated and very clean. We are making plans to book this home again for our next HHI vacation!Posted: 11/25/2022

Updated ranch home in a quiet cup-de-sac with three bedrooms, two king beds and a two twin with pull out couch. Kitchen is fully renovated and has all the built in appliances you need, most kitchen utensils and food storage containers. Bike path at back edge of backyard gets you to beach in a 10 minute walk or 5 minute bike ride. New washer/dryer comes in handy. As does the outdoor Weber grill with connected and spare gas tank. Recommend renting bikes for everyone who can ride. Bring your own sharp knives, cutting board, and foil/Saran Wrap.Posted: 8/10/2022

One thing to keep in mind for planning purposes, because it’s a gated area with a charge to enter, any services given are subject to up charges. (Bike/beach gear deliveries, In home massage, grocery delivery, etc). It wouldn’t keep me from staying again but I would plan accordingly. Customer service was ok but I was told texts would be answered and they weren’t and no one I spoke to on the phone after arrival was overly friendly. It also felt weird to get a call from management after booking through VRBO because it wasn’t explained well within booking that they would be calling me for my credit card after I had already entered it into the site I booked with. I suspected it was a scam but after checking found it was their process and all did go seamlessly once I knew. I am hoping to plan a trip back with my family very soon. We loved the backyard's huge, gorgeous live oak trees and made good use of the hot tub on colder February days. Ten-minute easy walk to the ocean, and 20-minute walk to a charming shopping area. The layout provided great privacy. We used the king-sized bedroom on one side of the house, and our guests used the bedrooms (one king-sized and one with twin beds) on the other side of the house. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We loved the backyard's huge, gorgeous live oak trees and made good use of the hot tub on colder February days. Ten-minute easy walk to the ocean, and 20-minute walk to a charming shopping area. The layout provided great privacy. We used the king-sized bedroom on one side of the house, and our guests used the bedrooms (one king-sized and one with twin beds) on the other side of the house. We shared this house with another family and it was fantastic! The house was spotless and has a great layout. Having the bike path to the beach just outside the backyard was so nice. The kitchen was well stocked and all the furnishings in the house are very tasteful. Island Time was a very easy property management company to work with! Communication was very good, the check in process was seamless, and everything was precisely as described. We wouldn’t hesitate to rent this house again. All 6 of us (2 adults and 4 teens) had a wonderful vacation. The house is beautiful with plenty of room to spread out. We ran out of propane and the rental company replaced it quickly. Would definitely stay here again. Perfect location in sea pines. A 5 minute bike ride to the beach, 2.5 mile bike ride to harbour town and 2 miles to south beach. The hot tub was a nice surprise. Loved the bike trail in the backyard. We saw 3 deer come in the yard. Just beautiful!Posted: 7/24/2021

Wow this house was amazing! We stayed with our family of 4 (kids ages 9 & 11) and grandparents. Setup of the house was great kids loved their bedroom. The house was beautiful everything was updated, open floor plan. Fixtures & appliances were all updated as well. Location couldn’t have been better bike path goes by the backyard & it’s a 5 minute walk or 1 minute bike ride to a beautiful section of uncrowded beach! The location was perfect for easy bike rides to the beach and other locations of interest within Sea Pines (Salty Dog, Harbor Town, Baynard Ruins, and Lawton Farms). The house was very clean and well appointed with everything we needed. It was beautifully decorated and quite spacious for our group.
