The Town of Hilton Head Island's 2026 Beach Renourishment Project began on August 6, 2025 at Fish Haul Beach, located off Mitchelville Road on the Island's north end. This vital initiative, part of the Town's long-term beach management program, is undertaken every 8 to 10 years and aims to preserve, protect, and restore Hilton Head's valuable shoreline.
The 2026 renourishment will mirror past efforts (1990, 1997, 2006, 2016) and involves placing approximately 2.2 million cubic yards of beach-compatible sand across 46,500 feet of Atlantic Ocean and Port Royal Sound shoreline. Sand will be dredged from offshore shoals and pumped through extensive pipeline systems onto designated beach areas, then shaped by heavy machinery to meet specific design standards.
The $47.5 million project is divided into three phases, with work expected to last until May 2026:

During the renourishment, about 1,000-foot beach segments will be temporarily closed, with beachgoers directed around active work zones via ramps and signage. Construction is expected to proceed 24/7, moving at a pace of 200-300 feet per day, with minor disruptions lasting just a few days for any specific beachfront property

The project includes safeguards for endangered species. Activities are monitored by consultants to protect sea turtles and migratory shorebirds. Per U.S. Army Corps and USFWS permit conditions, dog activity is restricted in a small area adjacent to Fish Haul Creek Beach Park. All other beaches remain under normal seasonal pet access rules.

Absolutely wonderful stay at this charming 4-bedroom townhouse near Harbor Town in Hilton Head! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a beautifully maintained and spacious home that was perfect for our group. The layout was perfect for family and friends to gather, with plenty of room for everyone to relax and enjoy. The townhouse itself is tastefully decorated with a modern coastal vibe, making it feel like a true retreat. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the essentials, making it easy to cook meals together. The living spaces were cozy, and each bedroom was comfortable with an ensuite bathroom, ensuring everyone enjoyed their space. The private patio was a great bonus – perfect for enjoying morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. The property is peaceful and quiet, making it a great spot to unwind after a day of adventure or beach excursions. The location could not be more ideal – just a short walk to Harbor Town, where we enjoyed exploring the shops, dining options, and of course, the stunning marina views. We also took full advantage of the nearby beach and the biking trails Hilton Head is so famous for. There’s so much to do, and everything is just a stone's throw away! We also enjoyed brunch at the Harbor Town Links Clubhouse which is next door and this was the perfect experience for the golfers in our group! Next trip we will definitely plan a round at this legendary course. All in all, this townhouse provided everything we were looking for and more.
