Red, White & Blue Skies! Celebrating July 4th on Hilton Head Island.

There are few places in the South that do the Fourth of July quite like Hilton Head Island. With the Atlantic as your backdrop, a lighthouse silhouetted against a firework-lit sky, and the smell of a low-country pig roast drifting through the salt air — Independence Day here isn't just a holiday, it's an experience. This year carries extra weight, too: America turns 250, and Hilton Head is pulling out all the stops to honor the milestone. Whether you're a local or making the trip down for the weekend, here's everything happening on the island this July 4th.

Hilton Head Firecracker 5K & Family Fun Walk

8:00 AM | Coligny Beach

Kick off the holiday on foot at one of Beaufort County's largest and longest-running road races. The Firecracker 5K sends runners and walkers along a scenic coastal route, and the fun doesn't stop at the finish line — a post-race BBQ with hot dogs, veggie burgers, and a couple of complimentary cold beers (21+) makes it a full celebration. Proceeds benefit the Sea Turtle Patrol of Hilton Head.

Red, White & Blue Bike & Wagon Parade
8:30 am | Harbour Town

Deck out your bike, wagon, pet, or little ones in patriotic colors and join the festive parade around Harbour Town. This year the parade is led by Woody the Clydesdale from Lawton Stables — already a fan favorite before the day even starts. Meet at the parking lot adjacent to the Quarterdeck at 8:30 am to register and pick up decorating supplies. Entries will be judged on patriotism (supplies limited to the first 100 registered), with the parade lineup beginning promptly at 9:30 am.

Fourth of July Carnival
10:00 am – 11:30 am | Harbour Town Lawn, Sea Pines Resort

Immediately following the parade, the Harbour Town lawn transforms into a full-on carnival for kids and kids at heart. This year's lineup is the most packed yet, with classic carnival games, a bounce house, inflatable axe throwing, face painting, tie-dye stations, and a juggler and bubble show guaranteed to draw a crowd. DJ Alan will be spinning festive tunes and emceeing the action from the stage under the Liberty Oak.

The crowd favorite? The Watermelon Eating Contest — sweet, messy, and absolutely not to be missed. And new for 2026: meet Woody the Clydesdale up close during a special meet-and-greet after the parade. It's the perfect photo op and an unforgettable moment for little ones.

Salute from the Shore — Military Aircraft Flyover
~1:00–2:00 pm | South Carolina Coastline

One of the most stirring sights of the day: South Carolinians line the beaches as F-16s from Shaw Air Force Base roar overhead, followed by military C-17s and vintage privately owned aircraft. The flyover sweeps the entire length of the South Carolina coast, with fighter jets expected around 1:30 pm and vintage military planes following at roughly 1:45 pm. Stake your spot on the sand early.

Shannon Tanner Patriotic Show & HarbourFest
6:30 pm | Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina

Shelter Cove's beloved HarbourFest — now in its 37th year — goes full patriotic on the Fourth. Shannon Tanner takes the stage at 6:30 pm with a special holiday show, joined by kids' entertainer Cappy the Clown with balloon animals, face painting, and plenty of laughs. A free shuttle is available for the evening's events. Note: the regular Tuesday night fireworks show is skipped on July 5th this year, so the Saturday July 4th show is your Shelter Cove fireworks moment.

Gregg Russell Fourth of July Concert
8:00 pm | Sea Pines Liberty Oak, Harbour Town

For generations, Gregg Russell has been synonymous with summer on Hilton Head. Gather under the famous Liberty Oak at Harbour Town for his beloved interactive sing-along concert — a tradition families return to year after year. It's the perfect warm-up to the fireworks finale, and the atmosphere under those ancient oaks is something you simply can't replicate anywhere else.

Fireworks

Harbour Town Lighthouse

Sea Pines Resort | 149 Lighthouse Rd
Fireworks at ~9:00 pm

Don't miss: At 8:15 pm, Lincoln — a nationally recognized bald eagle ambassador — takes flight from the top of the Harbour Town Lighthouse in honor of America's 250th anniversary. A genuinely once-in-a-lifetime sight.
Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina

Palmetto Dunes | Mid-island
Show starts at 7:00 pm

Pro tip: A free shuttle runs to Shelter Cove for the July 4th event — skip the parking scramble entirely

Hilton Head Island has a way of making every holiday feel like it was made for the coast. Between the lighthouse fireworks reflecting off Calibogue Sound, a bald eagle soaring into the summer sky, Gregg Russell's voice carrying through the oak trees, and the low-country breeze rolling in off the Atlantic — July 4th here in 2026 is the kind of day you talk about long after the summer ends. Happy 250th, America. Happy Fourth from Hilton Head.
