The Town of Hilton Head Island's 2026 Beach Renourishment Project began on August 6, 2025 at Fish Haul Beach, located off Mitchelville Road on the Island's north end. This vital initiative, part of the Town's long-term beach management program, is undertaken every 8 to 10 years and aims to preserve, protect, and restore Hilton Head's valuable shoreline.
The 2026 renourishment will mirror past efforts (1990, 1997, 2006, 2016) and involves placing approximately 2.2 million cubic yards of beach-compatible sand across 46,500 feet of Atlantic Ocean and Port Royal Sound shoreline. Sand will be dredged from offshore shoals and pumped through extensive pipeline systems onto designated beach areas, then shaped by heavy machinery to meet specific design standards.
The $47.5 million project is divided into three phases, with work expected to last until May 2026:

During the renourishment, about 1,000-foot beach segments will be temporarily closed, with beachgoers directed around active work zones via ramps and signage. Construction is expected to proceed 24/7, moving at a pace of 200-300 feet per day, with minor disruptions lasting just a few days for any specific beachfront property
The proposed project will include sand placement along five areas of the island shoreline:
The project includes safeguards for endangered species. Activities are monitored by consultants to protect sea turtles and migratory shorebirds. Per U.S. Army Corps and USFWS permit conditions, dog activity is restricted in a small area adjacent to Fish Haul Creek Beach Park. All other beaches remain under normal seasonal pet access rules.

We loved this condo! We basically traveled with six adults (we have four adult-sized teens) and this condo was perfect. It is more spacious than I could tell from the photos. With three king sized beds and a pullout couch, everyone was comfortable. We usually do one night in and one night out, and the kitchen is equipped with everything you need. This property was absolutely beautiful and perfect for our family vacation. Having 3 bedrooms with king beds was a great find since most times a 3rd bedroom has bunkbeds or is meant for children. I have a 1 and a half year old and the place was perfect for her. There was already a baby gate installed on the staircase. I highly recommend staying here. The location was ideal as we were right across from the shops and restaurants. Only thing I was would suggest is to provide beach towels since we traveled from out of state and did not necessarily have room to pack our own towels. This rental is beautiful, great view of the property and you can see the ocean, so relaxing! The decor is fabulous, comfy furniture, huge kitchen, luxurious bedrooms and baths! So close to everything, right across from Coligny, so plenty of restaurants and shops to check out! The decor , furnishings , wood work, kitchen , etc plus the location across from old downtown Hilton was fabulous . We hope to return with all of the family soon.
