The Town of Hilton Head Island's 2026 Beach Renourishment Project began on August 6, 2025 at Fish Haul Beach, located off Mitchelville Road on the Island's north end. This vital initiative, part of the Town's long-term beach management program, is undertaken every 8 to 10 years and aims to preserve, protect, and restore Hilton Head's valuable shoreline.
The 2026 renourishment will mirror past efforts (1990, 1997, 2006, 2016) and involves placing approximately 2.2 million cubic yards of beach-compatible sand across 46,500 feet of Atlantic Ocean and Port Royal Sound shoreline. Sand will be dredged from offshore shoals and pumped through extensive pipeline systems onto designated beach areas, then shaped by heavy machinery to meet specific design standards.
The $47.5 million project is divided into three phases, with work expected to last until May 2026:

During the renourishment, about 1,000-foot beach segments will be temporarily closed, with beachgoers directed around active work zones via ramps and signage. Construction is expected to proceed 24/7, moving at a pace of 200-300 feet per day, with minor disruptions lasting just a few days for any specific beachfront property

The project includes safeguards for endangered species. Activities are monitored by consultants to protect sea turtles and migratory shorebirds. Per U.S. Army Corps and USFWS permit conditions, dog activity is restricted in a small area adjacent to Fish Haul Creek Beach Park. All other beaches remain under normal seasonal pet access rules.

27 Starboard Tack was a great place to stay with our extended family. The house was new and clean, positioned in a great neighborhood close to the beach and grocery store. Make sure to call ahead to have them turn on the hot tub and heat the pool.Posted: 9/8/2024

The home is beautiful. All of the beds are amazing and the linens are top notch. We all love having fans in every bedroom. The pool is large and has plenty of room for all 8 of us. My 3 year old granddaughter felt like she was queen of her own castle by using the hottub as an overlook to the big pool. The wildlife is crazy. We saw owls, blue herrons, egrets and one good size gator just coasting through. The deer are everywhere! This is why we love returning to the island every year. The only disappointment, there were several dirty hand prints on the large windows that overlook the lagoon, hair and dust bunnies on the bathroom floors. The sofa covering definitely need washed. These are not things I would ask to be fixed but would prefer to not have to clean myself. The location is nice because it is not highly congested. The walk to the beach was a bit too much for the 3 year old, but do-able on bike.Posted: 6/15/2024
